About me
Hi, I'm Esther, an artist from Trinidad, in the Caribbean. I enjoy exploring the visual language of colour and form. I am drawn to earth's landforms and geomorphology; this inspires my expressive mark making and unconventional application of media, in order to obtain unpredictable and exciting results. My paintings are usually portraits where hyper realism is juxtaposed against the abstract. The colours are vibrant and expressive; I build up layer upon layer, with rich results. In my ceramic practice, I use a combination of commercial and self formulated glazes, underglazes and stains. The glazes react with each other, pooling, bubbling, running. The clay thus becomes a canvas, showcasing beautiful abstract landscapes. No two pieces are alike. I treasure the beautiful surface 'defects', that result from mixing different clay bodies together. Each crack or crater lends itself to the visual story and uniqueness of the piece. Select pieces are available for purchase and commissions are welcome.
