Based in Trinidad and Tobago, Esther Griffith is a multidisciplinary artist whose work explores the intersection of the human condition and physical earth. A graduate of the University of the West Indies, Griffith has gained international for her participation in projects such as the Wikimedia Foundation's Wiki Unseen initiative, where she gave lief to historically underrepresented BIPOC figures.
Her practice is defined by a unique topographic approach to portraiture. By layering vibrant oils, Griffith creates a dialogue between realism and expressive abstraction, treating the human face as a landscape of emotion. The tactile sensibility extends to her ceramic work, where she experiments with selg-formulated glazes that pool, bubble and crater - mirroring the unpredictability beauty of geomorphology. |
